Is this blade for you?
Best for:
- Defensive players who need maximum control from long distance
- Modern defenders who mix chop, push, block and occasional counter-attack
- Players using long pips, anti-spin or controlled inverted rubbers
- Players who want a light oversize blade with a soft, stable touch
- Players who rely on placement, variation and spin change more than raw speed
- Players who need more safety when defending under pressure
Not for:
- Offensive players looking for explosive power
- Close-to-the-table attackers who play fast counter-topspin
- Players who prefer a hard, direct carbon feeling
- Players who want a compact, fast blade for quick pressure
- Players who need extra speed from the blade itself
- This blade is not built to finish the point with power. It is built to keep you in control when the rally becomes uncomfortable.
Tibhar Balsa DEF 25
The Tibhar Balsa DEF 25 is a defensive blade designed for players who want control first, control second, and control again when the point becomes difficult.
Its oversize head gives a larger contact zone and extra stability in defensive strokes, while the lightweight balsa core keeps the blade easy to handle. At around 75–80 g, it feels light in the hand, which matters a lot for defenders who need fast racket adjustments between chop, push, block, receive and recovery.
The feeling is soft, controlled and forgiving. The blade does not shoot the ball out aggressively. It holds the ball long enough to help you produce heavy backspin, change rhythm and place the ball with precision. This makes it especially suitable for classic defense, modern defense and controlled allround defensive play.
With a speed rating of 3+ and control rating of 10, the Balsa DEF 25 clearly belongs to the DEF category. It is not a blade for players who want automatic speed. It rewards touch, patience, timing and tactical discipline. If your game is based on forcing the opponent to make mistakes through spin variation, placement and consistency, this blade gives you the platform to do it properly.
The five-ply construction gives enough stability without making the blade stiff or dead. The balsa core adds comfort and control, especially in defensive contact. Chops feel secure, pushes stay low, and blocks can be placed with confidence. With long pips or anti-spin, the blade becomes a very serious option for players who want disruption without losing control. With controlled inverted rubbers, it offers excellent safety for heavy chop and spin variation.
Its limitation is clear: it does not give you free power. If you play mostly fast topspin, aggressive counter-attack or direct hitting, this blade will feel too slow. But for a real defender, that is not a weakness. It is the point of the blade.
Coach Opinion — Daniel
I like this blade for players who understand what defense really means. Defense is not just putting the ball back. Good defense is pressure. It is variation. It is making the opponent hit one more ball, then one more, then one more, until his timing breaks.
The Balsa DEF 25 gives you the time and touch to do that. It is light, controlled and very safe in the hand. With long pips, it gives you room to manipulate the ball without feeling rushed. With inverted rubbers, it helps you keep the chop deep and stable.
I would not give this blade to an offensive player who wants speed. That would be a bad recommendation. I would give it to a defender, a modern defender, or a control player who wants to build points with intelligence instead of force.
If you know how to use control as a weapon, this blade makes sense.
